Marcus Garcia
“Marcus Garcia might be the best climber you’ve never heard of.” — Rock and Ice Magazine, issue 238. Marcus, 42 years old from Durango, Colorado, is an all-around climber, and has established over 200+ new routes, including everything from traditional, alpine, sport, and mixed climbing to big walls and desert towers. However, his biggest accomplishment and legacy is not how hard he can push himself, but what he passes on to the next generation of climbers as a coach and mentor. As lead coach for youth Team USA Ice Climbing, Marcus is helping develop the next generation of Olympic Caliber athletes.
He is on the UIAA Youth Commission Board, which is helping to bring this sport to the winter Olympics. He still puts his competitive climbing skills to use, as he still competes in sport, mixed ice climbing and bouldering competitions. His favorite thing to do is teach climbing. He owns a climbing gym. Where shares his passion for climbing. He coaches a youth climbing team and mentors them on the what it means to be a climber. His clinics are love by all those that have taken them at many of the climbing festivals. When he is not climbing, he can be found behind the lens of a camera capturing other climbing. Marcus Garcia lives by this quote "Dream as if you are going to live forever, live as if you are going to die tomorrow"
